Reinforced soil slopes and embankments are structures that combine synthetic materials with compacted soil. Their primary function is to mitigate local and global slope failure mechanisms, making them a technical, efficient, economical, and versatile solution capable of adapting to a wide range of civil works and geotechnical conditions.

Chloride Leaching Demonstration Heap, Chile
Chloride Leaching Demonstration Heap, Chile
Chloride Leaching Demonstration Heap, Chile
In response to the challenge of containing material for leaching processes in a high-seismicity zone in Chile, a system of reinforced embankments inclined at 70 degrees using geogrids was implemented, designed to provide stability under demanding geotechnical conditions. The solution incorporated two types of geogrid reinforcement: one oriented toward controlling internal failure mechanisms within the embankment body, and another aimed at mitigating potential surface instabilities.
This technology was selected due to its structural flexibility, strong performance under seismic events, and ease of installation, enabling the contractor to accelerate construction timelines and optimize infill material logistics. As a result, the system delivered an efficient, technically robust, and economically viable solution, even in a context where seismicity represents a critical factor for infrastructure performance.
